The UCLA Language Alliance was launched in December 5, 2012 to prepare UCLA students for careers in the US and abroad by ensuring the continued availability of cutting-edge courses in dozens of the world's languages.

The Language Alliance brings together highly skilled and qualified lecturers and faculty members from more than 50 languages and various departments. The Alliance not only supports proficiency-oriented instruction and language assessment but also provides professional development including training in Oral Proficiency Interviews through the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

The Language Alliance, in collaboration with the Center for Digital Humanities (CDH) supports UCLA's language programs in terms of online placement tests, new certificate programs for language proficiency, a Master's degree program for language pedagogy, the promotion of language studies as a cornerstone of a great research university and distance learning.
